SHARPLESS LEADS VIKINGS PAST SAINT PAUL’S 68-57

Freshman Guard Scores Game High 21 Points as Vikings Defeat Tigers on the Road

LAWRENCEVILLE, VA - Freshman Angelo Sharpless scored 21 points and pulled down 9 rebounds as the Elizabeth City State Vikings defeated Saint Paul’s College 68-57 Thursday night at Brunswick County High School.

The Plymouth, NC native scored 17 of his points in the second half and finished with 2 blocks and 4 steals off the bench for the Vikings. Paul Goldsmith added a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds while Trent Bivens and B.J. Williams scored 11 and 10 points respectively as the Vikings earned their first Eastern Division win.

A tightly contested game throughout its duration, the second half alone saw 7 ties and 7 lead changes until the Vikings used a 9-2 run to go up 61-53 with 2:58 left to play. The Tigers were unable to gain ground and ECSU went 5-6 from the charity stripe in the final minute to seal the win.

In his second start of the season Blake Price had 9 points, 5 assists and a career high 5 steals for ECSU. Maurice Reevy was the Tigers’ high man with 14 points as Saint Paul’s slips to 3-14 (CIAA 2-13) on the year.
