GILL’S DOUBLE-DOUBLE POWERS ECSU PAST LIVINGSTONE 79-66

Lady Vikings Dominate the Paint in CIAA Opener

ELIZABETH CITY, NC - Kenyatta Gill’s third double-double of the season led the Elizabeth City State University Lady Vikings to a 79-66 over Livingstone College in their conference opener Thursday evening at the RL Vaughan Center.

Gill, a senior from Mobile, AL, tied her season high with 22 points and pulled down a career best 18 rebounds in the victory. Shaquella Johnson, in her first game as a starter this season, scored 20 points while Stephanie Harper chipped in with a double-double of her own, 17 points and 15 boards off the bench.

Montiya Harrison hit the game’s opening basket for the Lady Blue Bear’s only lead of the evening. ECSU answered with a 10-0 run and would not relinquish the lead for the rest of the game. The Lady Vikings controlled the game with their rebounding prowess grabbing 64 boards, 30 of which came on the offensive glass.

The Lady Blue Bears (5-3, CIAA 0-1) had a total of 30 rebounds and was outscored in the paint 21-7. Rashida Elbourne and Brittany Wright scored 13 points apiece in the loss.

ECSU (8-3, CIAA 1-0) will return to the court when they host Johnson C. Smith University on Saturday at the RL Vaughan Center. Game time is slated for 5:30pm. For more information on ECSU Athletics, visit www.ecsuvikings.com.
