ECSU Wins See-Saw Affair; Captures Season Series Over Lady Blue Bears

ELIZABETH CITY, NC - The Elizabeth City State Lady Vikings outscored Livingstone College 10-5 in overtime to earn a 66-61 victory Monday night at the RL Vaughan Center.
Kearah Jefferys’ jumper (her first basket of the game) with 9 seconds remaining forced the extra session. Once the extra five minutes commenced neither team managed to score until Montiya Harrison put LC ahead with 2:36 left in the game. On the Lady Vikings’ ensuing possession Crystal Smith was fouled as she scored a layup and would connect on the free throw to give ECSU the lead for good 59-58. Shaquella Johnson and Kearah Jefferys scored on back-to-back layups to give ECSU some cushion while the Lady Blue Bears only managed a Harrison 3-pointer as time expired.
The game was close throughout with 15 ties and 15 lead changes. ECSU outrebounded Livingstone (4-8, CIAA 2-5) 57-41.
Shaquella Johnson led ECSU with a team high 16 points while Joyce Freeman tallied a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds.
The Lady Vikings (8-4, CIAA 4-4) will return to action at Shaw University on Saturday, January 16 at Spaulding Gymnasium in Raleigh, NC. Game time is scheduled for 5:30pm. For more information on ECSU Athletics, visit www.ecsuvikings.com.
