ECSU Survives Late Blue Bear Run to Earn Nine Point Victory

ELIZABETH CITY, NC - Paul Goldsmith score 19 points and grabbed 19 rebounds as Elizabeth City State held on to defeat Livingstone College 79-70 Monday night at the RL Vaughan Center.
After trailing ECSU 37-30 at the half Virgil Taylor’s jumper at the 11:30 mark capped a 10-0 Blue Bear run which gave them a 45-44 advantage, their first lead since early in the first half. The lead changed six more times over the next four minutes until the Vikings went on an 18-8 run to push the lead to double digits, 70-59 with 1:18 to play.
The Vikings forced 21 Blue Bear turnovers which were converted into 23 points for ECSU. Angelo Sharpless collected his third consecutive game in double figures with 13 points while Quintin Spady, Marquie Cooke and B.J. Williams each chipped in 10 points apiece. Trent Bivens rounded out the double figure scorers with 11 points.
Aaron Caruthers and Greg Henry each had 19 points for the Blue Bears (7-4, CIAA 5-2).
