ECSU RELEASES 2013 FOOTBALL SCHEDULE

Vikings Open Up 10-Game Slate On September 7th in Elizabeth City

ELIZABETH CITY, NC- The Elizabeth City State University Athletic Department has released their 2013 football schedule.

The Vikings will begin 2013 in Elizabeth City against Newberry College on September 7th at 6pm. Newberry has won both their meetings with the Vikings. The Wolves topped ECSU in the teams’ season opener last year 46-20 and in 2006 prevailed 49-33. Both games took place in on Newberry’s home field.

ECSU will then hit the road for two straight weeks beginning with Tusculum College (9/14) in Greenville, TN. The Vikings’ last clashed with the Pioneers in 2008, falling just short in a 32-30 loss on the road. The following week ECSU will travel to Albany, GA to complete a home and home series with Albany State University. In their inaugural meeting last season in Elizabeth City, the Vikings’ survived with a narrow 13-12 victory over the Golden Rams.

On Saturday, September 28th ECSU will welcome Fayetteville State University to Rocky Mount for the 16th Annual Down East Viking Football Classic. Of all of the Vikings’ opponents “Down East” the Broncos are the most familiar with the area. 2013 will mark their 7th appearance at the Rocky Mount Athletic Complex, the most of any CIAA school. ECSU has won five straight “Classics” at their home away from home. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 pm.

The Vikings’ three remaining home dates will be against Virginia State on October 12th, Homecoming October 19th vs. Lincoln University and their season finale vs. Bowie State on November 9th.

ECSU’s other cross division game will be on the road at Saint Augustine’s College in Raleigh on October 5th. Their road games are against Northern Division opponents Chowan University (October 26th) and Virginia Union (November 2nd).
